Immigration Group: Practice Profile

Clark Wilson LLP's Immigration Practice Group provides advice and assistance to individuals and businesses on a variety of immigration issues. While we do represent a wide range of clientele, including Canadian and foreign individuals and their families, our practice is focussed on assisting corporate clients wishing to arrange for foreign nationals to work in Canada as well as the United States.

Our clients include U.S. corporations placing executive and management personnel and other professionals into Canada, and Canadian corporations placing individuals into the U.S.

Representative clients include major U.S. and Canadian corporations in a wide range of businesses, including numerous significant companies in the information technology sector.

Some of the specific services offered by the Immigration Practice Group include:

  • assistance in processing permanent and temporary business visas under GATS, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), and various NAFTA categories such as business visitors, professionals, and intra-company transferees;
  • advice and assistance in obtaining Canadian permanent resident status and citizenship as a result of or incidental to obtaining a temporary work permit; and
  • assistance in processing visas under the various U.S. permanent immigrant and temporary non-immigrant categories.

Where required, the Immigration Group also works closely with the firm’s other business practice groups, including our general Corporate and Commercial, Labour and Employment, and Taxation practices. For example, our Taxation Practice Group is often called upon to provide specific assistance in determining the effect of Canadian permanent residence on Canadian tax liability.

In all of our endeavours, the Immigration Practice Group is committed to ensuring a smooth transition of personnel and business operations across international borders.
