Samantha Ip is a partner of the firm and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. She is the Chair of the Insurance Group, and a member of the Infrastructure, Construction & Procurement and Higher Learning Groups.
Samantha has been nationally recognized for her legal work. She has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and Federal Court, as well as before administrative tribunals. Samantha resolves claims through alternative dispute resolution for effective risk management.
In the insurance industry she represents insurers located in Canada, the U.S. and in the London market. Samantha is counsel on coverage matters, bad faith claims, complex liability and multi-party litigation. She is the supervising lawyer for an insurer on a mandatory construction warranty program for both coverage and recovery, and serves as the contact partner for a number of underwriters.
Samantha also works for the construction industry. She represents her clients in all facets of a project, from the preparation of construction contracts, assisting clients with builders liens, providing advice on bonds, to the handling and resolution of a variety of construction claims.
Samantha is a regular speaker at seminars. She has presented on construction and insurance topics for industry associations including Buildex Vancouver, Canadian Construction Women, Vancouver Regional Construction Association, BC Insurance Institute, BC Building Envelope Counsel and US Law Network. She was the editor for the Continuing Legal Education Annual Law Review for Construction from 2007 to 2011. In addition, Samantha has been published in Construction Business, Legal Edge, Adjusters Quarterly, Canadian Insurance Top Broker and Thompsons World Insurance News.
She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia. In addition to English, Samantha speaks French, Cantonese and Mandarin.
