Brock Smith is a partner of the firm and a member of the Technology, Intellectual Property, Corporate & Commercial and Health Care groups.
He provides strategic legal advice to information technology and emerging growth companies of all sizes, concentrating on asset acquisition and management strategies, technology licensing, outsourcing arrangements, intellectual property audits and other due diligence investigations, and corporate finance transactions.
Brock has also developed a unique practice in the area of public safety law, where he provides ongoing advice to PSAPs, emergency communications corporations and other public safety bodies in British Columbia on matters such as liability and statutory immunity, the legal impact of new and emerging technologies, including wireless and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technologies, and regulatory matters affecting 9-1-1 services.
Brock is an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law and is a guest lecturer on information technology and corporate financing topics for various post-secondary institutions, including the Masters of Digital Media Program at the Centre for Digital Media in Vancouver. He is also a frequent guest lecturer for the Law Society of British Columbia's Professional Legal Training Course on the topics of "Company Law" and "Buying and Selling a Business".
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria in 1987, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia in 1990.
