Allyson Baker is an associate with the firm's Strata Property, Labour & Employment, Construction & Procurement and Environmental Law Groups. She has extensive experience in civil litigation and human rights tribunal work and is reputed for routinely achieving great results for her clients in court.

She brings valuable experience practicing with boutique litigation firms in both Toronto and Vancouver, in the areas of commercial, employment, construction, strata property and environmental law.

Allyson has authored many complex executive employment agreements and has written and presented on Directors and Officers Liability Insurance issues and Non-Profit Directors and Officers Liability. She is co-author of the Employment Law chapter in the Strata Property Practice Manual, Continuing Legal Education of British Columbia, 2008.

Allyson graduated from Queen's University in Kingston with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry in 1989. She earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 1993.

Construction & Strata Property Law

Acting as co-counsel for owners and contractors in tendering disputes.

Acting as co-counsel for owners in multiparty litigation arising from delayed completion of institutional buildings, with accompanying building deficiency problems.

Advising strata corporations on raising sufficient funds for repairs, contracting with the building envelope consultant and remedial contractor, third party warranty requirements, builders lien claims, collecting funds from delinquent owners, obligations to disclose building deficiency problems to third parties and resolving outstanding warranty claims.

Acting as counsel for strata corporations in multi party litigation and mediation arising from design and construction deficiencies.

Advising strata corporations and owners of their respective rights, powers and duties under the Strata Property Act, including providing advice with respect to the drafting and interpretation of bylaws, as well as internal governance issues, insurance claims and employment matters.

Acting for strata corporations in the Supreme Court of British Columbia and in mediation and arbitration proceedings.

Labour & Employment Law

Preparation and review of executive and other employment and consulting agreements.

Advising corporate clients regarding employment matters, including termination, wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, statutory obligations and human rights claims.

Representing employers with respect to wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal and human rights claims in court and tribunal proceedings.
