Bad faith and breach of contract claims against insurance companies. Defended a national railway company in a complex commercial arbitration involving a claim in excess of $10 Million. Acted successfully for a national property development company. Profile Doug Lahay is a partner of Clark Wilson LLP and Chair of its Personal Injury Practice Group. Mr. Lahay practices primarily in the insurance and Plaintiff personal injury areas, with a focus on catastrophic Plaintiff personal injury and medical malpractice. Mr. Lahay has extensive trial experience, having tried cases in the Supreme Court of British Columbia (both judge and jury and judge alone), the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, giving rise to trial awards and settlements totaling well in excess of $20 Million. Mr. Lahay has been counsel on several leading cases including the first case in British Columbia to consider the application of legislation mandating periodic payment of large awards. In commercial litigation, Mr. Lahay’s focus is on loss of income and business interruption claims. He obtained both his Bachelor of Commerce degree (1982) and his Bachelor of Laws degree (1983), from the University of British Columbia.
