Banking and secured lending, particularly representing Canadian chartered banks and other lending corporations in complex lending transactions. Mr. Howard’s experience with lending transactions includes: various borrowing entities (including corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, trustees and offshore entities); demand and terms loans; construction and acquisition loans; foreign currency loans (U.S. dollar, British pound sterling, Euro and Euro-Yen); various funding options (Prime Rate, U.S. Base Rate, Cost of Funds, Bankers Acceptances and LIBOR); loans on various kinds of real and personal property in BC and in other jurisdictions; and syndicated/participation loans. Representative Work $80,000,000 loan in connection with the acquisition, completion, construction and lease-up of a high tech park in Toronto, Ontario $12,000,000 loan for the construction of a hotel project in Victoria, BC $22,765,000 operating and construction loan with respect to the development of a seventeen storey office building in Vancouver, BC $45,000,000 loan for the acquisition of a major Vancouver Hotel $10,000,000 convertible debenture financing and private placement for a high tech manufacturer in Canada and Ireland $24,000,000 loan for the acquisition of and addition to a major shopping centre at Vernon, BC US $20,000,000 loan, standby credit, and swap facility to meet the corporate financial requirements in Canada and the U.S. of a major parking operator Profile M. Douglas Howard is a senior partner with Clark Wilson LLP and a senior member of the Commercial Lending practice group. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in Economics (1963) and Law (1966), and was called to the BC Bar in 1967. He has practiced as a partner with Clark Wilson LLP since 1984.
