Matthew Ely is an associate with Clark Wilson LLP's Corporate & Commercial and Commercial Real Estate Practice Groups.

Matthew earned his Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in 2001, majoring in human resources management and labour relations, and his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 2008, both from the University of British Columbia.

While studying at the University of British Columbia, Matthew received multiple scholarships for outstanding scholastic achievement, including the Outstanding Student Initiative Scholarship, the Panvini Scholarship in Law, and the Law Foundation Scholarship.

Prior to law school, Matthew worked for a large national telecommunications company as a Human Resources Advisor advising management on all matters with respect to performance management, compensation and benefits, training and development and recruitment.

Matthew was employed with Clark Wilson as a summer articled student in 2007 and returned to Clark Wilson for his full articles in May 2008. Matthew was called to the Bar in May 2009 and joined Clark Wilson as an associate.

Representative Work

  • Assisting with the acquisition and sale of various commercial real estate properties and site acquisition for residential development projects.

  • Reviewing and drafting commercial leases and lease renewals.

  • Reviewing and drafting a wide variety of corporate and commercial agreements, including shareholders agreements, subscription agreements, restrictive covenants and non-competition/solicitation agreements.

  • Assisting with share and asset purchase/sale transactions for both public and private companies.

  • Assisting on corporate and commercial aspects of tax related transactions.
