Seva speaks, reads and writes Russian fluently. He studied law at the University of British Columbia, receiving several academic scholarships and earning his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2007. While studying law, Seva operated a successful legal research business. Prior to commencing his legal studies, Seva had an extensive career as a Telecommunications Engineer with a focus on Research & Development, and Client and Project Management. Seva earned his Bachelor of Communications Engineering degree, with high distinction, from Carleton University. After completing his legal studies, Seva clerked for the British Columbia Supreme Court. Seva was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2008.
