Representative Work

Steven represents individual, corporate and institutional clients in litigation- related matters, predominantly in the construction and insurance industries. His representative work includes:

Construction

  • Construction deficiency and delay claims;

  • Project "on site" disputes;

  • Builder's lien claims and advice;

  • Construction contract reviews, advice and negotiation; and

  • Risk management.

Insurance

  • Insurance coverage advice to insurers and insureds;

  • Resolution of insurance coverage disputes;

  • Directors' and Officers' liability claims;

  • Over-lapping insurance coverage disputes;

  • Subrogated claims; and

  • Warranty coverage and claims.

Steven also has experience representing clients making submissions to Royal Commissions; defence of personal injury claims; shareholder, joint venture and partnership disputes; general business litigation; and debt recoveries.

Steven Donley is an associate with Clark Wilson LLP's Construction and Insurance Practice Groups.

Steven received his Bachelor of Business (Management) and LLB degrees from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in 2004. He practiced as a Barrister and Solicitor in Australia for two years before moving to Vancouver. Steven was called to the British Columbia Bar in September 2009.

While undertaking his legal studies, Steven worked as a litigation paralegal in a top-tier, national Australian law-firm. He articled and practiced at a boutique Australian insurance and commercial litigation firm before joining Clark Wilson.

Steven is a keen advocate and appears regularly at settlement conferences, mediations and before British Columbia's courts and tribunals.

Steven's strong interest and aptitude in business administration and strategy, together with his broad and international litigation experience, allows him to provide practical and cost-effective legal services to his clients.
