Appraisals Under B.C.’s Insurance Act: Practice and Procedure

On October 1st, 1994 section 11 of British Columbia’s Insurance Act was substantially revised to provide for a mandatory appraisal procedure in cases of certain quantum disagreements between insurers and insureds. Inasmuch as the appraisal process may now play a much more significant role in disputed insurance claims, it is appropriate to review the practice and procedures applicable to appraisals generally.
