Lawsuit against landlord

  • Successfully defended, at trial and on appeal, a landlord against a lawsuit brought by tenants after a fire substantially damaged the rented property. The claim was dismissed on the basis that there was no causal like between the landlord’s failure to install smoke alarms and the actual damage suffered by the tenants (Boon v. Mann 2015 BCSC 990) (affirm’d Boon v. Mann, 2016 BCCA 242)
