Articles

The BC Government has announced that the BC minimum wage will increase in 3 stages from $8.00/hr to $10.25/hr over the next year as follows:

  • May 1, 2011 to $8.75/hr
  • Nov. 1, 2011 to $9.50/hr
  • May 1, 2012 to $10.25/hr

There will also be increases to the minimum wages earned on an alternate basis (ie. daily rates for live-in workers, resident caretakers and farm workers). The minimum wage increases will not be as large for employees who serve alcohol; their increases will be $8.50/hr, $8.75/hr, and $9.00/hr effective on the same dates as the other increases. Finally, effective May 1, 2011 the $6.00/hr training wage will be repealed.
