Employers Must Review COVID-19 Safety Plans

Covid workplace

On November 19, 2020, British Columbia’s public health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, extended the scope of previous orders and issued new orders which affect employers in the province.

Dr. Henry has ordered that all employers must review their COVID-19 Safety Plans and ensure that daily health checks are being completed by all employees attending the workplace.  Masks must now be worn in all shared work areas where physical distancing cannot be maintained such as elevators, kitchens, break rooms, and hallways.  Where possible, employers should cease return to work plans and continue to encourage working from home.

Inspections are expected to be increased at workplaces in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health regions to ensure employers have proper COVID-19 Safety Plans and that they are being complied with.

The text of Dr. Henry’s order has not yet been published, but further information will be provided once available.
